Cyprus blooms during spring, bringing a sense of renewal and excitement for a variety of events and activities for all to enjoy. This helps to continue to highlight why Cyprus is an all-year-round destination for visitors. Several cultural festivals and outdoor adventures are being held, and spring is a perfect time to experience the vibrant energy all over the island. Springtime ushers in some wonderful festivals and some exciting social events across the island. These offer several things to do and see, and allow for Cypriot culture and tradition to bloom along with the season of spring. These festivals, events, and holiday celebrations vary in size and also include religious celebrations and sporting events. Attending them goes hand-in-hand with food, drink, music, and dance and these occasions are also the perfect opportunity to socialise, meet new people, have fun whilst being immersed in Cypriot culture. There is something meaningful for everyone to experience, and adding a Cyprus festival or two to a spring travel plan is a good option.

THE CYPRUS CARNIVAL

Carnival celebrations take place all over the island. Each city will be staging a whole series of celebrations that will start on February 20th and continue for at least 10 days. Events will include singing, satire, games, wearing costumes, and several street parties. The festival culminates with a grand parade, which includes an array of floats traversing each city, taking place 12 days before the start of Greek Orthodox Lent.

THE MANDARIN FESTIVAL DEIRONA

The village of Dierona is hosting a two-day event that celebrates mandarins. The orange themed festival is being held on March 8th and 9th respectively. The festival will entertain visitors with live traditional performances and feature local delights, bites and liqueurs made from mandarins!

THE WILD TULIP FESTIVAL POLEMI

The village of Polemi, located in Paphos district, is the only area on the island where tulips are grown. This festival is celebrates this phenomenon along with the beauty of nature. THE CYPRUS FILM FESTIVAL

The 23rd edition of the Cyprus Film Days International Film Festival takes place once again. This festival of film highlights exceptional films from Cyprus and abroad. Film screenings, parallel events, workshops and parties will take place in Limassol and Nicosia.

THE LEMON BLOSSOM FESTIVAL EPISKOPI

Taking place on April 6th in the village of Episkopi in the Limassol district, the Lemon Blossom Festival will allow visitors to taste and purchase lemon-based local sweets, beverages, jams, and preserves. This celebration of the lemon tree and its blossom will also offer some lovely examples of local folk art and homemade lemon-scented candles. The program will also include several workshops that allow for the participation of making drinks and local delicacies from lemons. Guests of the celebration will also be introduced to several village traditions. The event also offers a photo exhibition along with a folk art concert.

THE LEFKARA COUNTRY RUN & VERTICAL CHALLENGE

Awarded in 2021 by the World Tourism Organisation as the Best Tourism Village in Cyprus, the village of Lefkara stages an event that combines both cross-country running and hiking. An exciting weekend, featuring races in the stunning Cypriot countryside will be taking place. A total of three races start at the picturesque village and each will follow a wonderful rural route into the forest, next to small rivers and the Dipotamos dam. The thrilling event appeals to both fitness enthusiasts and nature lovers and offers the opportunity for them to physically challenge themselves while exploring the beauty of the Cypriot countryside. The first vertical challenge follows a 4 km route that has a 440m positive altitude difference on Saturday, April 12th. A 13 km run that has a 435m is being held the following day, along with a  23 km country run that has an 800m positive altitude difference and both will follow a dirt road and paved route.

THE SARAKOSTIANO LENT STREET FOOD FESTIVAL

Held under the slogan ‘Good Food, Good Drink, Good Purpose’, this festival brings all of the aromas and flavours that honour fasting most delightfully.  The Sarakostiano Street Food Festival is a vibrant celebration of food, culture, and community with the Cyprus Chefs Association, the Nicosia district, and the Alkinoos Artemiou Foundation, once again joining forces to hold this festival. The vibrant celebration of food will transform the lower part of Eleftherias Square in Nicosia into a vegan food court, highlighting delicious new and tradition vegetarian dishes. This event brings together food lovers from across Cyprus and beyond and all proceeds from the event will be donated to the Alkinoos Artemiou Foundation.

THE TOCHNI BEDROCK GRAVEL FESTIVAL

The Bedrock Gravel Fest in the village of Tochni brings gravel biking enthusiasts to the forefront. This exciting event offers a range of bike routes suited for all skill levels, allowing riders to explore Cyprus’s diverse landscapes, from rugged trails to coastal paths. With well-marked routes, hydration stations, and mechanical support, participants are in for an unforgettable biking adventure surrounded by breathtaking views and a vibrant community atmosphere.

GREEK ORTHODOX EASTER

Orthodox Christianity, follows the Julian calendar, which differs from the Gregorian calendar that most Catholic and Western European countries follow. As a result, Easter dates differ but align every six years. Greek Orthodox Easter is the most important religious holiday in Cyprus, rigourously celebrated throughout the island. Easter celebrations tend to centre around the church and several church services take place during the Easter period, bringing communities together every year. The 40 day lent fast is broken on Easter Sunday and most Cypriot households come together for their Easter feast. This celebration remains a unique fusion of religious and cultural practices that dominates Cyprus every spring.

THE FISH FESTIVAL POLIS CRYSOCHOUS

The picturesque Latsi harbour once again hosts this much-anticipated event for all lovers of seafood. This festival once again promises a day full of fun, celebrating marine culture and the wealth of the Mediterranean Sea. Cyprus’s maritime heritage will be honoured with a variety of fresh seafood dishes that will include grilled octopus, calamari, and fish souvlaki. Live cooking demonstrations will enhance the experience, enabling everyone in attendance delicious food, music, and the vibrant culture of Cyprus. Local neighbouring folklore societies will also be holding musical performances by traditional dancers, singers and musicians that will form a backdrop for the local restaurants around the harbour, that will also be offering a wide range of fresh fish dishes. Local exhibitors will also showcase the region’s traditional products and demonstrate its traditional arts. Local fishermen will also be on hand to give a presentation of traditional fishing methods. The festival will also feature a flyboard show and several children’s activities.

THE ARTICHOKE FESTIVAL KITI

The village of Kiti, situated in the Larnaca district, once again hosts its annual artichoke festival. The village square transforms on Sunday, April 27th into an artichoke setting full of food, drink and fun. Largely produced in the region, the artichoke is a very special and beloved vegetable that is used in several delicious Cypriot culinary dishes.

THE MAY DONKEY FESTIVAL SKARINOU

The Golden Donkeys Farm, in the village of Skarinou, is to host the May Donkeys Festival this year. On Thursday, May 1st, celebrations, competitions, face painting, and various games will take place at the farm. Several activities with the donkeys for both young and old will also take place. Other activities will include fun with music, traditional food and drinks.

THE AGROS ROSE FESTIVAL

The village of Agros, in the Troodos Mountains, once again hosts its annual Rose Festival in May. Spanning two weekends from May 10th, the festival highlights the cultural and economic significance of roses in the village of Agros. The event draws visitors from across the island and beyond and is among Cyprus’s most enchanting annual events. Visitors will be able to explore rose gardens and take part in rose-picking activities. They will also have the opportunity to learn about rose oil production and they will also have the opportunity to purchase rose-based products like perfumes, soaps, and cosmetics The event also features traditional rose water distillation demonstrations and rose exhibitions. All the attractions of the village will be open to the public and there will be traditional dances and musical performances throughout the festival, along with food, drinks, and train rides.

The Rose Festival In The Village OF Agros Cyprus

THE REFLECT TECH FESTIVAL

May brings the ‘Reflect Tech Festival’, to the Kolla Factory in Limassol for another grand meeting for start-ups and entrepreneurs on the island. Guest speakers and visitors will meet across five different stages to discuss ideas and trends connecting Europe, Africa and the Middle East.
