First established in 1961, the festival holds immense cultural significance for the people of Cyprus and celebrates the significance of wine in Cypriot life, helping promote the local wine industry. Initially, the festival was a modest affair that focused on local wineries and their products, however, over the years it has evolved and has become a grand celebration that attracts thousands of visitors from all over the the world. The festival typically takes place in September coinciding with the grape harvest and it usually spans over ten days, allowing ample time for visitors to partake in all of the festivities.

A FESTIVE ATMOSPHERE

During the festival, visitors can sample a wide variety of wines produced by local wineries, including the famous Commandaria, a sweet dessert wine that is closely associated with the Crusaders who once ruled the island.
