A FESTIVE SETTING IN THE CITY’S OLD QUARTER
A TRADITIONAL CHRISTMAS VILLAGE
The festive season officially arrives in Nicosia with the opening of its Christmas village in the ‘Laiki Yeitonia’ quarter of the age-old city. The ‘Laiki Yeitonia’ area makes up part of the old quarter inside the city walls of Nicosia and it was created to preserve the traditional character of old Nicosia, by utilising the open spaces as an urban centre promoting folk art and Cypriot culture.
MARK THE DATES
The Christmas village will run continuously this year for fifty days and promises all visitors fun and entertainment in the quaint alleys of the old quarter. Opening on November 23rd to fanfare, the festivities will continue until the day of Epiphany on January 6th. This year’s entertainment programme will include live festive music, theatrical and dance performances, and various magic and puppet shows and there will also be several workshops, a plethora of activities for the whole family and a Santa’s grotto, where children can leave their letters for Santa and his elves. Every weekend the Christmas Village bar will host various events such as open mic comedy, retro music nights with DJs, and various live music evenings.
WHERE MAGIC MEETS TRADITION
This Christmas village will once again vibrantly light up the historic centre of the island’s capital city, and using the slogan ‘Where magic meets tradition’, this festive playground will be available to the whole family throughout the festive season. The old setting offers visitors of all ages a more traditional mode of festive fun and as well as a rich program of entertainment, visitors will also have the opportunity to take part in the various workshops and activities that will constantly be on offer. Hands-on workshops, incorporating Cypriot traditions with Christmas festivities, will take place daily, along with festive cooking demonstrations for adults and a whole host of entertainment for children.
A TRIP DOWN THE COBBLED STREETS
There will also be vendors lining the cobbled streets selling different types of Cypriot wines, traditional sweets, and street food, allowing all visitors to stock up on various Christmas gifts. All of these shops are inspired by age-old Cypriot festive traditions and will be ornately decorated adding to the festive atmosphere. The shops will also offer all visitors unique experiences, tastes, festive colours and aromas, activities for children and adults along with several daily surprises, making a visit to this winter wonderland event enjoyable and worthwhile this Christmas.
