A RANGE OF CHOICES

Most agree that a shared table of simple, wholesome ingredients defines a classic Cyprus breakfast. In light of this, a traditional first meal of the day usually comprises a combination of local savoury delicacies. These often include grilled or fried HALLOUMI CHEESE, eggs, bacon, Cyprus sausages, also known as Loukanika, LOUNTZA, fresh tomatoes, cucumbers, olives, and crusty village bread or koulouri, which is usually a form of sesame-seeded rolled bread.

Other Cyprus breakfast options include a much simpler spread. These usually comprise a quick savoury pastry, such as an olive or cheese pie, a juice, or a coffee of sorts. Vegetarian options usually include fresh tomatoes, cucumbers, olives, and crusty village bread or koulouri. Seasonal fruits are also often consumed in the morning, and a fruit-based Cyprus breakfast will normally include WATERMELON, melon or a combination of both. Other Cyprus fruits, such as various berries, are also sometimes served along with HALLOUMI CHEESE, or fresh ANARI, which is a soft, ricotta-like cheese. The latter is often drizzled with honey or carob syrup.
