A VAST OPEN-AIR HISTORICAL TREASURE

The Archaeological Park in Kato Paphos is a vast, open-air historical treasure in southwest Cyprus. Sprawling across the ancient coastal city of Nea Paphos, the designated UNESCO World Heritage Site preserves monuments stretching from prehistoric times through to the Middle Ages. It is particularly globally renowned for housing some of the most intact and beautiful ROMAN FLOOR MOSAICS in the world.

Main Attractions within the Park

The Roman Villas: The four excavated high-status aristocratic Roman homes are known as the houses of Dionysos, Theseus, Aion, and Orpheus. All four flaunt meticulously preserved mosaics that depict dramatic scenes from Greco-Roman mythology.

The Agora and Asklepieion: The ancient city market square and the ruins of a temple dedicated to Asklepios, the god of medicine.

Saranta Kolones: Also known as the forty Columns, these are striking, ruined remnants of a Byzantine castle built by the Crusaders using pillars from the original ancient city.

The Odeon: A beautifully reconstructed 2nd-century limestone amphitheatre that still hosts live musical and theatrical performances today.

Paphos Lighthouse: A white maritime beacon built by the British during the island’s colonial era. Positioned inside the park grounds, the PAPHOS LIGHTHOUSE offers sweeping views of the Mediterranean coastline.

TRAVEL TIPS

At least half a day should be reserved for visiting the site in its entirety. This is due to the size of the open-air grounds that surround the site. This will allow visitors to fully observe and take in all of the attractions this site has to offer. The site is highly exposed to the elements, so with minimal shade, it is advisable to visit during the early morning to avoid the intense midday sun. The terrain consists of a number of natural paths and dusty, uneven ground, so wearing comfortable shoes is also advisable.
