€1.8 BILLION SET ASIDE FOR DEVELOPMENT PROJECTS IN CYPRUS
WHAT IS THE THALIA PROGRAM?
IMPROVING & MODERNISING THE LOCAL ENVIRONMENT
The Cyprus Thalia Program is an initiative that uses a cohesion policy framework and different national resources to drive economic growth, digital transition, and social inclusion. With this in mind, the project’s main aims are to enhance the social integration of all residents across the island. The scheme is also aiming to improve and modernise the local environmental and digital landscape across Cyprus. It is doing this by focusing on enhancing SME competitiveness, research, green energy, and job creation.
EUROPEAN FUNDING
The scheme, which is made up of several smaller projects, is primarily being funded by the European Union. This makes this the largest European Union subsidy that Cyprus has received so far. The rest of the funding is being made available from the Cypriot national budget.
NEW EMPLOYMENT OPPORTUNITIES
This initiative as a whole is also increasing employment opportunities across the island. It is doing this by putting a series of local developments in place across the island. The 8,500 new jobs is projected to boost CYPRUS GDP by at least 6%.
