A SERIES OF NEW URBAN MOBILITY PROJECTS
LIMASSOL IS LEADING THE WAY
Limassol, it seems, is leading the way, across the island, to a healthier lifestyle and a more sustainable future. It is doing this by promoting a series of sustainable urban mobility projects, all aimed at improving the quality of life across the city. One of these initiatives comes in the form of the introduction of several new E-bike schemes. This is just one of several ways that is being used to reduce traffic and the dependence on private vehicles across the city.
ACHIEVING CLIMATE NEUTRALITY GOALS
The City of Limassol is a member of the European mission for climate-neutral smart cities. It has done this by previously employing several initiatives that make up part of the framework that forms project ‘MetaCCAZE’. This has helped the city to achieve all of its previous climate neutrality goals. The European Union, in acknowledgement, has awarded Limassol with its ‘Mission Label’. This label recognises Limassol’s plans to achieve climate neutrality by 2030, and grants the city access to further public and private European funding for future projects.
ACHIEVING CLIMATE NEUTRALITY GOALS
One of the city’s new public transport strategies includes public E-bike-sharing. With this in mind, German-based bicycle-sharing company ‘Nextbike’ has installed a new fleet of electric bikes. These are now fully operational throughout the city. This E-bike project, which is co-funded by the European Commission’s Horizon Europe programme.
