Carnival time before Greek Orthodox Easter marks one of the island’s most popular and vibrant cultural events. During this time Cyprus comes alive with colourful parades that are staged all over the island. With this, preparations for the carnival celebration in Paphos has already begun and this year’s festival of colour, dance and satire aims to be the biggest and brightest yet! The grand parade will take place on Saturday, March 1st, at 3:00 pm and all participants are encouraged to register their interest as early as possible.
CARNIVAL ROYALTY
The Paphos municipality will stage a number of events over a 10-day period this year and the celebrations will begin with the carnival king and queen’s procession though the city. This procession will once again open the annual celebrations and the carnival royalty will lead a merry band of local costume clad children, with music and dance troupes through the streets of Paphos.
PLANNED EVENTS
There will also be an open-air carnival event at Tepak Square as well as a children’s carnival parade. All festivities will culminate with the grand carnival parade through the city of Paphos, as well as a smaller carnival parade that will once again take place in Peyia Village. Crowds are advised not to attempt to drive into the area as all access roads will be pedestrian only for these events.
