Please note however, that whilst these cards enable you to get basic health care free of charge, it is still advisable to take out extra health insurance if you will require are likely t orequire extra or advanced health care.
European health insurance card (EHIC)
MEDICAL ASSISTANCE FOR EU NATIONALS
EU citizens can receive free medical assistance from hospitals in Cyprus. A European Health Insurance Card is required and can easily be obtained. An EHIC medical card is free & should be applied for before travel. To qualify, the recipient must be a citizen of any EU member state, Iceland, Liechtenstein, Norway or Switzerland. EHIC’s are normally issued for up to five years. EHIC’s provide access to free state medical treatment anywhere within the EU including Cyprus.Â
Global health insurance card (GHIC)
MEDICAL ASSISTANCE FOR UK NATIONALS
UK citizens can receive free medical assistance from hospitals in Cyprus. A Global Health Insurance Card is required and can easily be obtained. A GHIC medical card is free & should be applied for before travel. To qualify, the recipient must be a citizen of the UK. GHIC’s are normally issued for up to five years. GHIC’s provide access to free state medical treatment anywhere within the EU including Cyprus.
Private health insurance
MEDICAL ASSISTANCE FOR NON EU & UK NATIONALS
There is currently no provision for free medical assistance in Cyprus for non UK or EU nationals. All visitors from outside these areas should purchase private travel insurance and make sure that all possible eventualities are covered.
