A FREE SHUTTLE SERVICE
Since 2020, several free Park and Ride initiatives have been successfully introduced to Limassol suburbs. The main aims of these initiatives are to further reduce traffic congestion and alleviate pressure on parking facilities within the city. These new schemes, over the last 5 years, have actively encouraged uptake for all who want to visit the City of Limassol. They have done this by offering free shuttle services to and from the city centre from Limassol’s suburbs.Â
HOW DOES IT WORK?
This scheme as a whole has been touted as an important tool for future traffic management. It operates on the basis that drivers park their cars in designated car park areas and then transfer to a free regular bus service. These buses then usually follow a circular route that services both the city centre and the nearest suburbs. The scheme operates as a free car alternative that offers both a robust and convenient way to commute into the city of Limassol. As a result, these schemes have significantly reduced traffic congestion and competition for parking spaces.
A NEW SERVICE
The latest service, operating in the western suburbs of Limassol, is now fully operational. Although this new service is squarely aimed at employees and students, it is also open to the general public.Â
The parking facility for the new initiative is located next to the Alphamega Stadium in the village of Kolossi.Â
There are four main bus routes in operation, comprehensively linking the car park with these main parts of the city centre.Â
