Agro-tourism in Cyprus is a growing industry and mainly takes place across the Troodos mountains area of the island. It is a great way for visitors to experience the island’s rural life, culture and natural beauty, while supporting local farmers and businesses.Â

A RURAL SETTING

Visitors can opt to stay in a traditional farmhouse, cottage, country villa, rural guest house or hotel. There are also camping and glamping options and all of these different types of accomodations will offer a chance for nature lovers to embrace and experience the island’s natural beauty and splendour of its mountanous areas.
LOCAL WORKSHOPS
Workshops that include farm tours, olive oil production, wine making, and traditional cooking are readily available and will allow visitors to sample village life in the mountains of Cyprus first-hand.
FARM TOURS
Farm tours offer the chance for visitors to experience real live working farms and partake in a number of farm activities. Visitors will experience and learn about the island’s traditional agricultural practices and spend time on a real operational farm.
Trips are also available to citrus groves and vineyards, allowing visitors the chance to see how a typical harvest is collected first hand or join the harvesting teams.
OLIVE OIL PRODUCTION
Trips are available to olive groves and this will allow visitors to participate in the process of olive harvesting. Visitors will also be afforded the chance to follow the Olives to the local press. Visitors will then be offered the chance to experience an olive press first-hand and be directly involved in the production of locally sourced olive oil.
WINE PRODUCTION
Cyprus also has a long tradition of viticulture and special wine workshops will allow visitors to gain knowledge and first hand experience of how wine is made using traditional Cypriot methods.
LOCALLY SOURCED ORGANIC INGREDIENTS
Special cooking workshops are
available and allow visitors to select their own fresh, locally sourced organic ingredients and then learn how to cook traditional Cypriot recipes.
NATURE & HIKING TRAILS
The Cyprus countryside is there to be both explored and enjoyed, and there are a number of pre-designated nature hiking and biking routes that wind their way through the mountains. These trails offer a chance to explore the island’s flora and fauna on foot or on bike and they are rated in terms of difficulty Most offer clear concise signage and designated pit stops for rest and refreshments along the way.
BACKPACKERS
The nature trails are dotted with various camping and glamping sites, offering good facilities for backpackers that want to traverse the mountains using their own schedule.
