A POPULAR SPECTATOR SPORT
Horseracing is a popular spectator sport in many parts of the world, and Cyprus is no exception with the island offering an enriched history of equestrian culture. This all began in 1934 when British colonial administrators introduced horseracing to Nicosia. They went on to help form the oldest and most prestigious horseracing club in Cyprus, the ‘Nicosia Race Club’. It has been the hub for horseracing on the island ever since, offering an interesting and storied history.

SEVERAL HIGH-PROFILE RACE MEETINGS
The Nicosia Race Club, over the years, has played a significant role in developing equestrian sport on the island, particularly horseracing and has established the breeding, welfare and training of several racehorses on the island. The club today is instrumental in organising several high-profile race meetings and has become a popular venue for both local and international horse racing events. This includes the Cyprus Derby, which is the most prestigious event in the Cypriot horseracing calendar. The club also offers a wide range of services including training, boarding, and veterinary care for racehorses, as well as riding lessons and various equestrian activities for enthusiasts of all ages.

A POPULAR SPORT
Horseracing continues to be a popular sport in Cyprus and the Nicosia Racing Club’s strong equestrian culture, modern facilities, and ongoing investments into the sport have ensured that Nicosia is well positioned to continue its tradition as a hub for sport on the island. With this, the future of horseracing in Nicosia looks bright and with the continued growth and development, expected in the coming years, the city is poised to remain a key player in the equestrian industry for many years to come, ensuring the long-term sustainability of horseracing in Cyprus.

A MODERN WELL-EQUIPPED FACILITY
Initially located in the heart of the old city, the Nicosia Race Club moved to its current location, within the Nicosia suburb of Latsia, in 1979. The current venue hosts regular horseracing whilst boasting a modern well-equipped facility that has a large grandstand, good-quality stables, and a spacious racecourse capable of hosting a variety of racing events, from flat racing to steeplechases.Â

NEW RACING EVENTS & INITIATIVES
The Nicosia Race Club constantly strives to expand and improve its profile by constantly developing new racing events and initiatives, attracting more spectators on race days. One of the key areas of focus for the club is the promotion of horse racing as a family-friendly and inclusive sport. The club has launched several initiatives aimed at engaging young people and families, including youth riding programs, educational workshops, and community events, aimed at creating a new generation of equestrian enthusiasts.Â
