The best places to watch the sunset in Cyprus

Whilst most on the island take sunsets for granted, to others, there is nothing more beautiful than witnessing this daily spectacle from different viewpoints across Cyprus. Most go on to say that there is something truly magical about a sunset in Cyprus. These people often travel throughout the island, constantly searching for the best location to record the event. These truly amazing places often create a beautiful setting for photos at dusk that help create some endearing memories. With this in mind, several people who want to experience the magic of a Cyprus sunset from the best viewpoint often ask where these places actually are.

Here is a compilation of different places across the island offering some of the best viewpoints for sunsets all year-round.

FAMAGUSTA DISTRICT

Cape Greco: Located on the south-eastern tip of Cyprus, Cape Greco is a real showstopper when it comes to sunsets. The natural phenomena are further enhanced by the Lover’s Bridge, which sits high up on some coastal cliffs. The stunning natural stone arch frames the setting sun perfectly. This setting offsets the stunning display of colours as the sun gently kisses the horizon. The blend of fiery reds and calming purples perfectly shimmers above the peaceful Mediterranean waters that make this place truly special.

LARNACA DISTRICT

Stavrovouni: Found within a mountainous setting, Stavrovouni, perched high in the foothills, offers some stunning views of sunset. The sun seems to soak up the beauty of the surroundings as it takes its final bow behind the mountains. The sky from this viewpoint seems to be lower than normal and often looks like a large-scale work of art. The colours here are further enhanced by the stunning natural countryside that provides a viewpoint that has been described by many as simply out of this world.

Larnaca Salt Lake: The unique sunsets at these salt lakes transform into a shimmering golden oasis during the soothing embrace of sunset. As the sun takes its leave, it bathes the shallow lake in a soft, golden light. The presence of flamingos during the winter, as well as other migrating birds, gently wading through the waters, often creates a unique scene that truly distinguishes this place. It’s a paradise for nature enthusiasts and a delightful treat for birdwatchers, all set against the backdrop of a serene sunset.

PAPHOS DISTRICT

Peyia Sea Caves: These spectacular natural features on the western shore have often been described as a fairy tale setting. Located off the beaten path, the sea caves are often transformed into a warm, golden dream at sunset. As the fiery red sun lowers, several rays of red hue begin to play with light and shadow within the caves. These seem to enhance the sea that also reflects kindly on the sky. The famous EDRO III shipwreck can be seen in the distance, adding to the surreal scene.

Aphrodite’s Rock: The goddess of love, Aphrodite, is said to have been born here, and whether this legend is to be believed or not, it does not detract from the fact that this is one of the best places to witness a truly stunning sunset on the island. The viewpoint from APHRODITES ROCK is further enhanced by its beach setting, and the sea below seems to sparkle like it’s been sprinkled with fairy dust.

LIMASSOL DISTRICT

Akrotiri Sand Dunes: The scene here is often set by kite surfers, riding the waves of the Akrotiri dunes at sunset. This means that it’s not just about the sunset here. Although the sun seems to paint the sky with warm colours, it’s the kite surfers that seem to add an extra layer of excitement that helps to create a somewhat unique scene.
