Ayia Napa’s Nissi Beach has been named the best European beach once again by travel insurance experts. The Blue Flag-designated beach, known for its clear turquoise waters and white sands, has received top honours in the European Beach Index. Mellieha Bay in Malta, Portoroz Beach in Slovenia, and Elafonisi Beach in Crete, once again make up the top four behind Nissi Beach. 

The Beach Index, which helps holidaymakers choose their ideal holiday destination, ranks beaches throughout Europe. Its results are based on positive reviews, affordability, overall water quality, cleanliness, temperatures, and wave height. Local municipalities have also recognised this, and in recent years, have been campaigning to rid beaches of excessive plastic pollution. They have encouraged regular clean-up campaigns, which have helped keep these beaches in pristine condition. 

Beaches within the District of Famagusta are considered by many to be the best on the island. These beaches are consistently gaining accreditations and distinctions. They hold leading positions in several surveys of this kind, and they are also recognised by several online platforms. Online platforms have helped to shape overall tourism in Cyprus.
