TALKING TABLES IN CYPRUS

Talking Tables

The talking tables are held weekly and offer people a place where they can go and have an informal chat in and around Paphos. These meetings promote social gatherings with the aim of bringing people together to discuss and share their ideas on any particular topic. These events are usually hosted in a casual setting, such as a coffee shop or restaurant and participants can engage in meaningful conversations over food and drinks. Talking table events are becoming increasingly popular as people seek out opportunities to connect with others face to face and and explore new ideas through conversation. The first talking table began at the Hickory Restaurant in November 2023 and has proved to be a huge success. Another talking table event is now due to start in the village of Kouklia.

The Moderator

The format of talking table events is simple. A group of up to ten people, gather around a table to discuss a pre-determined topic. A moderator ensures that everyone has the opportunity to share his or her thoughts and ideas and facilitates the conversation. The moderator may also provide prompts or questions to keep the conversation flowing and ensure that all perspectives are heard.

Topics of Discussion

Talking tables offer people a warm welcome and a chance to meet new people. The topics discussed at talking table events can vary widely, from politics and current affairs to personal development and relationships. The goal of these events is to create a safe and inclusive environment where participants can share their thoughts and opinions without fear of judgment or criticism. By bringing together people from different backgrounds and experiences, talking table events can help foster understanding and empathy among participants.

A Fresh Perspective

One of the key benefits of talking table events is the opportunity to meet new people and expand ones social network. These events often attract people from different age groups as well as different backgrounds. This ensures healthy debate from differing points of views. Talking table events can be a great way to learn about new topics and gain fresh perspectives on familiar issues in a warm friendly atmosphere.

Unique & Valuable

Talking table events are an engaging way to connect with others and explore new ideas. Participants use these gatherings to spend time expanding their social circle and deepening their understanding of a particular topic, thus combating loneliness. Talking Tables is a non-profit initiative that wants to bring people together. Talking tables offer inclusivity, allowing people to broaden their horizons and allowing them to gain valuable knowledge and experience.

A special message from Molly
"When we feel lonely and see others together laughing and having a good time we tend to withdraw instead of approaching because we all fear feeling a social outcast! Let today be the the day all of that changes! Come along to a new Talkin' Table event which will be held evey Monday at the Hickory Restaurant, Paphos."
