Ayia Napa’s Nissi Beach has been named the best European beach for 2024 by travel insurance experts. The Blue Flag-designated beach, known for its clear turquoise waters and white sands, received top honours in the 2024 European Beach Index, ranking beaches based on positive reviews, affordability, water and air temperatures, and wave height. The Beach Index aims to help holidaymakers choose their ideal holiday destinations. Mellieha Bay in Malta, Portoroz Beach in Slovenia, and Elafonisi Beach in Crete, which make up the top four, follow Nissi Beach.
THE FAMAGUSTA REGION
The several Blue Flag beaches in the Famagusta region are considered by many to be the best beaches on the island, constantly gaining distinctions, and they have constantly held leading positions when surveys of this kind have been conducted. It is also recognised that online platforms and expert reviews shape tourism and this has helped Cyprus remain at the forefront of visitor choice. Cyprus Authorities have also recognised this and in recent years have been campaigning to rid beaches of excessive plastic pollution, and have encouraged annual clean-up campaigns all over the island.
