A NEW WAY TO REPORT EMERGENCIES
An agreement to develop the next-generation 112 emergency system for the Republic of Cyprus has been signed by the Cyprus Civil Defence Force and Cyta. The new system will allow the public to send text messages, photos, videos, and their live location using the current system, which uses the single 112 emergency number to contact ambulance, fire, or police services across the Republic of Cyprus. Vehicles equipped with the eCall system will also be able to automatically transmit an SOS signal following an emergency or a collision to this number.
Once introduced, the fire service, police, ambulance service, the Forestry Department, the National Guard, the Search and Rescue Coordination Centre, and Civil Defence will all be connected to the new system, which will use a single network that will automatically route emergency requests to the respective services. It is hoped that this will improve coordination between agencies, reduce response times, and make emergency assistance more effective.
